CLOSING THE REGISTER

Important Note: Due to the penny shortage, all cash transactions will have the ‘change due’ rounded up to the nearest five cents. This is likely to result in discrepancies in your end-of-day totals and a slight variance is to be expected. Please DO NOT adjust closeout values based on any discrepancies.

  1. Select POS Activities → Closeout Cash Drawer

  2. Enter your Username (Emp #) and Password

  3. Count Coin change (Quarters, Dimes, Nickels, & Pennies)
    • Count how many of each coin, not their worth.
    • Push ‘Enter’ after each entry. (Be sure to do this after entering the last coin count also to ensure that it is included in the Total Deposit amount on the screen)
    • Take out the coin change amount shown after the totaled whole dollar amount using as many pennies as possible first, then nickels, dimes, and quarters. Place this amount in the deposit bag.
    • If pennies remain in the drawer after removing the required amount, leave them in the drawer and notify the closing manager.

Example: Total coin value is $14.97 – Remove $0.97 and place it in the Deposit Bag. On a scrap piece of paper, write $14, initial, and date. (this will help you count to $200 later.)

  4. Count Paper Bills ($100, $50, 20, $10, $5, $2, $1)
    • Count how many of each bill, not their worth.
    • Push ‘Enter’ after each entry. (Be sure to do this after entering the last bill count also to ensure that it is included in the Total Deposit amount on the screen)

  5. Remove the Total Deposit amount shown on the screen and place it in the Deposit Bag.

  6. Count up to $200.00 in the drawer
    • Start with the coin total from step #3 (in our example, $14.00)
    • Add paper bills until the total reaches exactly $200.00
    • This $200.00 becomes the starting balance for the next day and should be placed in the Cash Drawer Bag or left in the till based on store procedure.
    • Everything over $200.00 goes into the deposit bag.

  7. Close out of Stratus
    • Select ‘Save & Print’ (‘Print X Out’ no longer needed per accounting)
    • Exit out of the entire internet browser.
    • Turn off the monitor.

  8. Place printed information in the Deposit Bag

  9. Take Bags/Cash Drawer to a Manager or Store Safe (dependent on store procedure)

Important Note: If something seems off, it is more important to make sure there is $200 even left for the next day, and the remaining cash will go in the deposit.
